Code of Practice
A Christian Family School will have the distinctive features set out below. Some distinctive features may be adapted within an individual school setting but the CFS model will be clearly demonstrated.
A CFS School would have the benefit of an informal audit from CFS Ltd in order to develop the distinctive CFS approach.
Distinctive Features of a Christian Family School
- Biblical foundation for all our practices.
- Daily prayers for children and adults
- Evangelistic, community minded schools, serving God, our families, the locality and the city.
- Parental responsibility for their own children’s education.
- Family involvement in education both at school and at home.
- Family participation in schooling.
- The family is the principle unit not the school or the ‘authorities’.
- Shorter school day to facilitate family activities, including teaching and learning.
- Family Afternoons to give some curriculum responsibility to parents.
- Family and whole-school residential experience (e.g. Family Camp).
- Family dress code appropriate to an activity – i.e. no school uniform.
- Non-selective admissions policy.
- Sensitivity to other theological views – promotion of common gospel themes.
- Voluntary contribution towards school costs (fees imply a ‘paid for’ service rather than support for Christian Education)
- Christian teachers, who may or may not be state accredited but who will, through their character, model to the children the values of our families and a CFS.
- Topic-based, Christian curriculum based on the biblical CFS model.
- Friendly and informal.
- No formal reports / SATs due to increased access of parents to staff.
- Small school, small institution – light touch bureaucracy.
- Sacrificial service, sacrificial giving.
